Hip Pain
Many of the causes of hip pain can be explained by disturbances in gait. One example is when a patient presents with a “sagittal plane disturbance” in gait where there is a “block” to the normal forward and backward (extension and flexion) movement of the hip.
The causes for this are varied and include restricted ankle motion, restricted great toe motion and muscle inflexibility. Only by recognising the reason for this block can effective treatment commence and only by assessing motion in the sagittal plane, during gait analysis, will a likely cause be found.
